Inclusive Playground Equipment and Adventure Play Features
The finished playground combines adventurous play with inclusive design, creating a space that can be enjoyed by children of different ages and abilities.
At the heart of the playground is a redesigned Wildwood Double Tower Cluster, packed with climbing challenges, elevated play opportunities and adventurous routes through the structure. The tower cluster was updated using our latest build methods and to meet current play safety regulations, while keeping the adventurous spirit of the original design.
Alongside the main structure, we installed a bespoke swing unit featuring two accessible swing seats and two standard flat swings. The swing area also includes rubber mulch safety surfacing to help improve accessibility and usability throughout the space.
As part of the project, the accessible swing seats were redesigned with greater consideration for wheelchair users, helping create a more inclusive and comfortable play experience for a wider range of children and families.
Inclusivity was considered throughout the entire scheme, from open access into the playground to the positioning of equipment close to pathways. The broad play value and age range of the Wildwood Double Tower Cluster also helps encourage shared play experiences between children of varying ages and abilities.
A New Inclusive Play Space for Families
Despite some delays caused by flooding on site, the project was successfully delivered as an engaging and inclusive natural play space for visitors to Ferry Meadows.
The finished playground keeps the adventurous feel and natural character of the original site while introducing improved accessibility and more inclusive play opportunities, something highly valued by the team at Nene Park Trust and the many families who visit the park each year.
