The hero tower at Agen

A tower that stands tall and tells a story

In the heart of Agen, France, TouchWood Play was invited to design a show-stopping hero play tower as part of a playground re-vamp at a shopping centre. The brief, delivered through the agency Bleu et Associés, was clear: create something iconic to sit atop a central mound. They wanted a structure that would draw children in and provide rich play opportunities for those aged 5 years and up.

Oh, and it had to be pink; a nod to the symbolic tulip woven into the park’s identity.

Bold design, big impact

Our design process focused on creating a landmark play element that fused imaginative theming with active physical play. The result was an iconic tower offering:

  • Vertical play challenges including a ladder and climbing crates
  • Scramble access via handholds woven into the mound of the existing landscape
  • High-level roleplay opportunities within a stylised medieval form
  • A dynamic slide to finish the experience with speed and style

Subtle accessibility touches – handrails on climbing routes and at the slide entrance – ensured the feature felt welcoming a wider range of abilities without compromising on excitement.
