Frequently asked questions

TouchWood Play primarily uses locally sourced, sustainable hardwoods known for their durability and natural resistance to wear. Common timbers include Robinia, oak, chestnut and larch. These species are chosen not only for their strength and longevity but also for their ability to blend beautifully into natural outdoor environments. Using high-quality timber ensures our playground equipment remains safe, robust and environmentally responsible for many years of active play. Where possible, we also strive to integrate other natural materials into our playgrounds, such as sand, pea gravel, bark chip, granite and water, to create a truly natural and sensory experience for children playing there.

For straightforward projects, the typical timeline from onboarding a new client to installing their playground is between 3 to 6 months. This can vary based on the project’s complexity, scale, location and the speed at which decisions are made. If planning permission is required before work can begin, this may extend the schedule significantly. Whenever possible, we work closely with our clients to align installation with quieter periods, such as the low season or times when the site is closed, to minimise disruption. For projects with tight lead times, we can often expedite delivery by utilising our range of signature features, which have a reduced technical design phase and can move quickly into manufacturing. Additionally, we offer equipment on an ex works basis, manufacturing to order and delivering directly to you, allowing your team to handle installation.

This longevity is a testament to the quality of our materials and craftsmanship. With proper maintenance, which we support through inspection and maintenance guides and our aftercare services, our playgrounds can serve communities, businesses and education settings for many years to come.
